Course Standards and Curriculum Review Process
The English & Language Arts team met regularly from the Spring of 2022 to the Summer of 2023 to review and update their curriculum documentation and to define each course in the sequence. We continue to use the Iowa Core Literacy standards as our guiding standards and worked to better align from course to course. They developed a scope and sequence and unit guides for each course to define the instructional materials, assessments, and expectations for each course. At the 6-7 level, we adopted StudySync in support of additional standards-aligned assessments and activities. They will use some of the built-in screening tools, diagnostic tools, and benchmarking tools to get more information about student skills and how we can meet their group and individual needs. At the 8-12 levels, they reviewed resources needed for each course to meet the needs of the students and their ability to approach the standards for the course. Additionally, we updated all AP Course materials to reflect recent changes made by the College Board.
