At the Waukee Community School District (Waukee CSD), the safety of our students, staff, and community is a top priority. We are committed to supporting and maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students.
Waukee CSD has a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan that outlines the expectations of staff, frequency, and types of training, and defines the roles and responsibilities before, during, and after an incident.
We continue to work closely with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that our district is always prepared to respond to a crisis situation. Each year the School Safety Team, in coordination with local law enforcement, reviews the plan to make sure it remains current and accurate. The Waukee CSD Board of Education reviews and approves this plan annually.
Discussing Safety with Kids
Communicating with children and students about violence in schools is a difficult, but important task. Please feel free to use these resources to help you discuss this matter with them.
In our ongoing effort to prioritize the safety of both our students and staff, we show a short video to students in grades 6-12 detailing the options that students have if an internal threat occurs. We do not show the video in our elementary school buildings in order to respect the varied maturity and readiness levels of our elementary age students on this topic.
We encourage all of our parents to watch the videos and educate your child(ren) as you deem appropriate.
The Waukee Police Department worked hard to produce these videos, and we are appreciative of our ongoing partnership with all of our local law enforcement agencies.
Securly Tipline
Securly Tipline gives students, families, staff, and community members an open line of anonymous communication to speak up when something feels wrong. “If You See Something, Say Something” is important, and Securly Tipline gives us a tool to allow for this.
Securly Tipline is a 24-hour tipline and offers different ways to quickly and easily report incidents via smartphone app, email, text, call, or web form. When you submit a tip, a thorough risk assessment is performed. When an alert is determined to be urgent, it follows an escalation process to notify the school.
You should call 911 immediately in the event of a crime or emergency where law enforcement and/or paramedics need to be dispatched right away. For non-emergent situations, you should call Westcom Dispatch at 515-222-3321.
You can download the Securly Tipline app for free on the App Store or Google Play.
