Help Waukee Combat Hunger in Central Iowa
This week, Waukee High School will go head-to-head with Valley High School on both the football field and during the Star 102.5’s Combat Hunger Virtual Fundraiser.
As a way to give back, the longtime rivals Waukee and Valley are putting their resources together to contribute to one of the largest food drives in the state of Iowa, but not without a little friendly competition. Throughout this week, the Waukee High School Student Council will be collecting funds on the official fundraiser website. On Friday night’s football game, the final amounts raised will be announced. For over 30 years, Combat Hunger has provided millions of meals to Central Iowans in need. This year, the fundraiser looks a little different without in-person donations due to COVID-19, but the virtual aspect remains as the most effective method of organizing. By donating money instead of food items, the food bank saves the time and resources that are incurred through a physical drive. In addition, the money allows the bank the ability to purchase their most-needed items much faster. According to the Food Bank of Iowa, a single dollar can provide up to four meals for hungry Iowans.
