Senior Spotlight: Lily Dosedel
Lily Dosedel is our first weekly Waukee High School senior spotlight!
Lily’s passion for art and creativity has grown tremendously throughout the years but more recently has become a bigger focus. Lily spends much of her time painting portraits, drawing, doing photography, and advancing her artistic skills.
“I’ve alwa
ys valued art, but I really started taking it seriously in my senior year,” Lily said. “I think both my AP 2D Design class and APEX Designing Communication Solutions course made me realize how viable incorporating art into my future career actually is.”
Lily recently entered three of her paintings and her art portfolio into The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. She received a gold key for two of her paintings as well as her art portfolio. The awarded artifacts will be advancing to the national competition. Lily was also the director, editor, and cinematographer for a short film titled WOOF. In under five minutes, Lily and her team told the story of an abusive relationship from a dog’s perspective. The short film earned an All-State award granting them state-wide recognition and a medal.
At Waukee High School the opportunities are endless, and Lily believes she has taken advantage of all the great resources Waukee has to offer.
Lily said, “My favorite part of Waukee High School is the sheer amount of opportunities available for students to get involved or to enhance their education.”
Lily’s advice to students is to find your own path instead of taking the one most traveled.
“My best advice for kids who want to be successful in something is to just trust your intuition and do your own thing instead of conforming to the norm. I also think it’s important to always be willing to improve yourself.”
Lily plans to attend the University of Iowa to double major in business and art in hopes of becoming a creative director and/or entrepreneur.
