District Awarded With Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) awarded Waukee Community School District with the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE). ASBO International’s COE recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. WCSD earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year 2020.

“We are very proud to earn this award from ASBO International. This award represents the District’s commitment to excellence in financial reporting, transparency, including timely and accurate financial statements for the District and its constituents,” Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Kautz said.

By participating in the COE program, school districts demonstrate their commitment to financial transparency. Applicants submit their CAFR for review by a trained team of peers, who provide feedback to improve future documents. If the CAFR meets the requirements of the program, the document may receive the Certificate of Excellence. A district’s participation in the COE program can facilitate bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.

Waukee Community School District has participated in the COE program for the past 16 years and was one of only 18 school districts in Iowa who received this award in 2019.
