Meet Our New Executive Director of Communications — Kayla!

We are welcoming Kayla Choate as the next Executive Director of Communications. Kayla begins in her new role on June 27. Kayla comes to Waukee CSD with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Iowa State, a Master’s in Communication Leadership from Drake, and nine years of work experience in the communications field.

“Waukee Community School District is growing, and I’m excited to join the team at such a momentous time,” Kayla says. “I look forward to helping the district achieve its strategic goals and building relationships with students, staff, and families.”

Kayla will lead the communication team and work on projects associated with the district website, social media, ParentSquare, media relations, marketing, branding, and more.

“My background is in journalism, so I’ve always loved to write, tell stories, and connect with people. The field of communications allows me to do all those things and more. I enjoy finding innovative, effective ways to reach people and strategizing about how best to share our stories with the audiences we serve,” she says.

Kayla and her husband, Jonathan, have two young daughters, ages 6 and 3. She grew up in Washington, Iowa, and attended Waco High School. During her downtime, Kayla enjoys exploring family events in the Des Moines metro area, cheering on the Cyclones, reading, traveling, and baking with her daughters.
