Waukee CSD Celebrates 10th School Garden
We are celebrating our 10th school garden in the Waukee Community School District at Radiant Elementary School! High school students in our APEX Construction Leadership Class collaborated with the Radiant Elementary School team to develop, design, and build the beds. In the weeks since the beds were finished, the elementary students have already planted spinach and garlic to grow over the winter and into spring.
Our school gardens are supported by our District’s Farm to School program. The garden space helps create lessons that are ingrained in our classroom experiences, teaching students about planting, growing, nutrition, pollination, and more! This space was funded by a Project Classroom Grant from the Greater Iowa Credit Union and a Grow It, Eat It Grant from the Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship. Greater Iowa Credit Union representatives attended a special celebration to present a big check and brought Cy along for the kids to enjoy.
