Waukee CSD School Board, Superintendent Win Awards

Waukee Community School District earned individual and team awards at the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) annual convention in November.

Dr. Brad Buck was one of 30 superintendents/administrators statewide to be presented with an Award of Honor. The Waukee CSD School Board—comprised of members Wendy Marsh, Michael Schrodt, Dr. Alex Smith, Armel Traore dit Nignan, Jaime Secory, Lori Lyon, and Michael Trettin—was one of 30 school boards to receive a Team Achievement Award.

According to an IASB press release, the awards are given each year to “board members, board teams and superintendents/AEA chief administrators/community college presidents who are committed to improving their knowledge and skills by attending IASB-led learning events.”

“I am impressed with the high standard of service that these board members, superintendents/AEA chiefs, and board teams are setting for their peers across the state,” said Elizabeth Brennan, IASB Board President. “They are modeling learning for students in their district, in addition to using that learning to improve education for those same students.”

To receive the Team Achievement Award, a majority of the Waukee CSD School Board’s members had to earn an Individual Achievement Award, which is presented to those who complete a minimum of 15 hours of learning in one year. For the Award of Honor, Dr. Buck also completed a minimum of 15 hours of learning, in addition to having at least two board members earn Individual Achievement Awards.

The Waukee CSD School Board is actively involved with the IASB, with Dr. Smith representing District 5 on the IASB Board of Directors. He also sits on the IASB Compensation and Benefits Committee and previously served on the IASB Legislative Resolutions Committee.

Since 1946, the IASB has been committed to serving Iowa school boards and public schools. As a 501c4 nonprofit organization, the association advances the goals of its members through education, advocacy and service.
