Waukee CSD to Host National Speech & Debate Tournament

NSDASix buildings in the Waukee Community School District will serve as host sites for the 2024 National Speech & Debate Tournament.

From June 16-21, about 6,700 students representing 1,500 schools across the country will travel to the Des Moines metro for the tournament. The following Waukee CSD buildings will serve as venues:

  • Waukee High School
  • Northwest High School
  • Prairieview Middle School
  • South Middle School
  • Timberline Middle School
  • Waukee Middle School

Other venues across the metro include Johnston High School, East High School, Valley High School, Roosevelt High School, and the Iowa Events Center.

According to a press release, the tournament is expected to attract 10,000 visitors to the metro and have a direct economic impact of $22 million.

“The NSDA is headquartered in Des Moines, and 2025 will mark our centennial year of providing competitive speech and debate opportunities for youth, so there is no better host than Iowa for our next two tournaments,” said J. Scott Wunn, Executive Director of the National Speech & Debate Association.
