2024 Spring Sports Recap


The spring season has come to an end, and Waukee CSD is proud of all that our student athletes achieved! We are thrilled to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. Check out the highlights from Waukee High School’s and Northwest High School’s spring varsity sports:

Tennis:

The NWHS boys swept the state tournament, winning titles in all four events:

  • Singles – Kaden Taylor (for the second year in a row)
  • Doubles – Kellan Croatt and Jake Nelson (for the second year in a row)
  • Co-ed – Brother/sister duo London Taylor and Kaden Taylor
  • Team

On the NWHS girls team, London Taylor and Riley Hilton won the doubles consolation for a third-place finish at the state tournament. Mia Deines advanced to the singles state quarterfinals.

WHS tennis standout Quinn Monson placed second in the singles state championship and became a four-time district champion. Ashley Medina also advanced to the state tournament in singles.

Track and Field:

The NWHS girls team placed second overall at state, with state champions in these events:

  • 400m hurdles – Avery Winter
  • 4x100m relay – Aunya Van Zetten, Katie Stahl, Ayrissa Robinson, and Katie Willits (all-time and state record)
  • 4x200m relay – Ayrissa Robinson, Keziah Caldwell, Aunya Van Zetten and Katie Stahl (all-time and state record)

The WHS girls team finished fourth at state and earned state titles in the following events:

  • 400m dash – Anjelena Carder
  • 800m sprint medley – Gentry Williams, Estelle Hinke, Jana Maharry, and Anjelena Carder

Anjelena Carder is also the 2024 state champion in the Iowa High School Pentathlon.

At the Drake Relays in April, NWHS girls won two events — the 4x100m relay and 4x200m relay (meet record) — and WHS girls won two events — the 400m dash (meet record) and the 800m sprint medley.

Golf:

The NWHS girls team finished the season as CIML conference champions and state runner-up. WHS golfer Ansley Adams qualified for the state tournament for the third consecutive year.

Soccer:

The WHS and NWHS girls teams, as well as the NWHS boys team, qualified for state. The NWHS girls advanced to the state semifinals, finishing the season with an impressive 16-3 record.

NWHS athletes Josie Jones, Samantha Eltjes, and Victoria Spahn were named to the 3A West All-District Team, and Jones and Spahn were named to the 3A All-State Team.

Lauren Nidey of WHS was named to the 3A All-State Team and the 3A West All-District Team.
