Waukee Area Christian Services offers many supports to the community in regards to food and health needs:

    • Waukee Food Pantry: The pantry’s mission is to provide nonperishable food and personal items to meet the short-term needs of those living in the Waukee Community School District.
    • Waukee Area Community Garden: The Fruitful Vine Garden was started in 2009 to provide fresh produce to patrons of the Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry.

Dallas County Closet is a community-run, nonprofit that accepts clothing donations to provide clothing to those in need. The shopping link to sign up for an appointment is posted monthly via Facebook.

Dallas County Health Navigators

The Health Navigation program is available to all Dallas County residents. Health Navigators connect clients with resources to meet their needs. This may include filling out paperwork, completing phone calls, or learning how to navigate the healthcare system. The program aims to help clients improve their overall quality of life and advocate for their own health needs.

It can be difficult to find a dental provider who accepts Medicaid and other types of dental insurance. Whether you have insurance or not, you can download the flyer to find a dental provider. If your child is under 21 years of age and does not have dental insurance, look for information on the Dental Voucher Program through EveryStep in the flyer below.

Hawki
Iowans are able to access dental insurance at a very affordable cost and sometimes free through the Hawki Dental Only plan. Check out the flyer below to find out how to apply.

EveryStep assists uninsured and underinsured children and pregnant women sign up for health insurance through Medicaid or Hawki to find a doctor and dentist. Assistance from EveryStep is free and available year-round. Staff who serve families in Polk and Dallas counties speak English and Spanish. Other languages are served by interpreters from EveryStep’s Interpretation Program.

Student Assistance Program

Employee & Family Resources offers a Student Assistance Program (SAP) designed to assist students with personal and family issues that can impact their behavior and achievement. The program provides support to students and their families through in-person counseling, telephone counseling, and resources.

When to Contact the SAP:

Call the SAP for issues that interfere with your daily activities, happiness, family stability or overall wellbeing. Some of the topics a SAP counselor can help you with are:

  • School performance
  • Stress
  • Confusion
  • Trouble with peers
  • Alcohol and other drug problems
  • Eating disorders
  • Problem gambling concerns
  • Dating and relationship issues
  • Conflict, bullying or violence
  • Depression or suicidal thoughts
  • Family concerns

In-Person Appointments

Counseling is proved by Masters level counselors experienced in working with children and families at three locations:

  • Downtown Des Moines
  • Ankeny
  • West Des Moines

Daytime and evening appointments are offered. Clients will be offered up to six sessions per year, per separate issue for problem assessment and short-term counseling as well as referrals to additional resources if needed.

Telephone Consultation

Counselors are accessible by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their counselors provide support for many issues including family or relationship issues, emotional concerns, stress and other issues that you or your family member may be facing.
